The 18mm Dark Ages: 1066 StarterPack - the perfect set for beginners, or experienced gamers looking to explore a new historical era.

The rules adjust to players’ level of experience, eliminating overwhelm for beginners, but challenging advanced gamers. Plus, the pre-printed figurines allow you to enjoy the period without a large investment of time and resources.

The Dark Ages refer to a period of over 900 years of European history, ranging from the 5th to the 14th centuries. The set contains the English (Saxon) and Norman armies, each providing unique advantages and disadvantages. Reflecting the Northen traditional tactics, the Saxon army is organized in tight, single unit shield-walls, where axe, spear, and sword clashes predominate. It’s great for short-range encounters, faces enemy attacks with resilience, but moves slower. In contrast, the Normans reflect the continental approach, employing a versatile mix of Heavy Cavalry, Spearmen, and Missile troops. The Norman army is more mobile, performs well in long-range attacks, but must keep its distance from the enemy. It relies on series of attacks aimed at gradually weakening the opponent.

• 443 figurines on 5 Plexiglass sprues

English Army with:

• 12 bases of Heavy Infantry with axes and spears
• 12 bases of Select Fyrd (well-equiped Militia Spearmen)
• 12 bases of Great Fyrd (poorly-armed Levies and Archers)
• 1 Commander

Norman Army with:

• 18 bases of Heavy Cavalry
• 6 bases of Armored Mercenary Spearmen
• 12 bases of Archers
• 1 Commander

The WoFun bases for this set measure 30x20mm each, are made from MDF (2.5mm thickness), and come printed in green (grass texture). They are structured as follows:

• An Infantry Base holds 2 groups of figurines, in 2 ranks (one behind the other).
• A Cavalry Base holds 2 groups of figurines, in 2 ranks.
• An Artillery Base holds one gun and its crew.
